Following the completion of his official term, Mr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela has been reappointed as the Acting Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The decision was taken with the consent of the Mahanayake Theros of both the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, the two highest monastic orders in the country.
Mr. Dela’s previous tenure as Diyawadana Nilame officially ended at midnight on September 7, 2025, marking the conclusion of his service as the Chief Lay Custodian of one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka.
Until the official election for a new Diyawadana Nilame is held, Mr. Dela will continue to oversee the administration, rituals, and cultural responsibilities of the temple in his acting capacity.
