The Badulla District Road Development Authority has identified more than 10 dangerous locations along the Ella–Wellawaya road between Ella and Rawana Ella.

A special study is currently underway to assess these areas, and repair work has begun to fill hazardous spots on both sides of the road where possible.

Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, noting that warning boards have been placed along the stretch, but many drivers fail to pay proper attention to them.

Meanwhile, the last rites of the 15 victims of the recent bus tragedy in Ella, including the bus driver, the secretary of the Tangalle Municipal Council, 12 staff members, and two children, were held yesterday (07).

The accident occurred on the night of September 4, when the bus plunged into a 1,000-foot precipice near the 24th pillar on the Ella–Wellawaya road.

Police said that the blood samples of the bus driver will be sent to the Government Analyst today (08) for further testing, along with the wreckage of the bus for detailed examination.
