Royal College Colombo emerged victorious in the 79th Bradby Shield Rugby Encounter, securing the prestigious title with an aggregate score of 18-13, despite losing the second leg 08-03 to Trinity College Kandy this evening (06) at the Royal Sports Complex, Colombo.

The second leg turned out to be a low-scoring battle dominated by forward exchanges and missed kicking opportunities from both teams. Trinity drew first blood in the 4th minute, reducing the overall deficit to just five points, though kicker Kevin Weerakoon failed to add the extra points. The scoreboard remained unchanged for the next 30 minutes, as Trinity held a narrow 05-00 lead at halftime.

After the break, Trinity extended their lead in the 62nd minute with a penalty from Shan Althaf, giving them hope of a late comeback. However, Royal responded almost immediately, slotting a penalty just two minutes later to maintain their aggregate advantage.

Despite Trinity’s spirited second-leg performance, it was not enough to overturn Royal’s first-leg lead, as the Colombo school sealed the Bradby Shield for yet another year.
