Sri Lankan police will launch a nationwide operation targeting illegal vehicle modifications and unsafe driving practices starting tomorrow (September 8), Deputy Transport Minister Dr. Prasanna Gunasena announced.
The special enforcement drive will be carried out across the island to ensure compliance with the Motor Traffic Act and related regulations. According to officials, the crackdown will focus on a range of violations, including operating vehicles in unroadworthy condition, unauthorized color changes, installing multi-colored decorative lights, fitting exhaust pipes that cause excessive noise, and displaying images or advertisements on vehicles.
Dr. Gunasena emphasized that the move aims to curb the growing trend of unsafe road behavior and bring discipline to the country’s roads. Police officers have been instructed to take strict legal action against offenders without exception.
Authorities also urged motorists to ensure their vehicles meet all legal and safety standards, warning that those found in violation could face fines, license suspensions, or even court action depending on the severity of the offence
