Sri Lanka has recorded a notable increase in foreign exchange inflows during the first eight months of 2025, according to the Central Bank.

Workers’ remittances reached USD 680.8 million in August alone, bringing the cumulative inflow for January–August to USD 5.116 billion. This marks a 19.3% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

Tourism earnings also showed positive momentum, crossing the USD 2 billion milestone within the first eight months of the year. Earnings were reported at USD 2.03 billion, reflecting a 7.8% rise compared to USD 1.88 billion recorded during the same period last year.

Both sectors continue to play a crucial role in strengthening Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves and supporting the national economy.
