Mechanical fault suspected in Ella bus tragedy

Police said an expert from the Department of Motor Traffic inspected the wreckage and confirmed the finding in a preliminary report.

However, Police Spokesman F.U Wootler stated that further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. The bus toppled into a precipice on the Ella–Wellawaya road on Thursday night, killing 15 people and injuring several others.

The wreckage has been recovered and will be handed over to the Government Analyst tomorrow (08) for further examination. Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the incident.
