The Department of Meteorology has issued the weather forecast for September 6, 2025, indicating possible showers in several parts of the country and rough seas around certain coastal areas.
A few showers may occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northern provinces, and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in Uva, Eastern, and North-Central provinces after 2.00 p.m.
Mainly fair weather is expected elsewhere across the island.
Meanwhile, the sun will be directly overhead Sri Lanka during its apparent southward relative motion from August 28 to September 7. The nearest locations where the sun will be directly overhead today (6) at around 12.08 noon are Ahungalla, Elpitiya, Amugoda, Thawalama, Deniyaya, Urubokka, Embilipitiya, Suriyawewa, Beralihela, and Galkaduwa.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Rain: A few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.
Winds: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase up to 50–55 kmph in sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Wind speeds may increase up to 45–50 kmph in sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam.
Sea Conditions:
The sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.
The sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam may be fairly rough at times.
The public, particularly those engaging in fishing and naval activities, are advised to exercise caution.
