A 26-year-old man was shot dead near the Mahawatta clock tower in the Grandpass police division last night (05), police said.
According to reports, two unidentified gunmen who had arrived on a motorcycle opened fire at the victim before fleeing the scene. The injured man, a resident of Kelaniya, was rushed to the Colombo National Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police suspect that a revolver-type firearm was used in the shooting. The motive behind the killing has not yet been established.
Grandpass Police have launched further investigations to track down and arrest the suspects.
