The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) has completed preliminary investigations into 6,700 cases of enforced disappearances reported in the country.
OMP Chairman, Attorney-at-Law Mahesh Katulanda, stated that the total number of persons recorded as forcibly disappeared stands at 16,700. He assured that steps have been expedited to ensure justice for all affected families.
Katulanda further emphasized that no incidents of enforced disappearances have been reported during the past five years.
Meanwhile, he revealed that a special program is currently underway to investigate an additional 10,000 cases of missing persons.
