Appeal court halts trial against ministry secretary Ravi Seneviratne

The Court of Appeal today issued an interim order suspending trial proceedings against Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and retired Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne, which are currently before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
The case relates to allegations that Seneviratne drove under the influence of alcohol and failed to prevent a road accident in 2023.
Seneviratne had filed a transfer application seeking to move the case to another court. After considering submissions, the two-judge bench of Justices Mayadunne Corea and Mahen Gopallawa granted interim relief.
The Court also issued notices on the respondents and fixed the matter for inquiry on November 25.
