Investigations revealed that a doctor had purchased the property around five years ago, though he had been residing elsewhere.
The bag was first noticed by the Grama Niladhari, whose office is located in a room adjoining the garage. The official immediately alerted the police.
Attanagalla Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne visited the scene and conducted a preliminary magisterial inquiry. The magistrate ordered the remains be sent to the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at Watupitiwala Base Hospital for examination and report.
Veyangoda Police are continuing further investigations.
