The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation after police uncovered that underworld figure Mandinu Padmasiri, alias ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’, had invested in a factory manufacturing crystal methamphetamine (ICE) in Nuwara Eliya.
During questioning, Padmasiri reportedly admitted to investing over Rs. 4 million in the illicit operation.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala stated that a house in Nuwara Eliya had been rented to run the drug manufacturing facility, and that more than 2,000 kilograms of chemicals had been imported into the country for this purpose.
