Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who is currently in remand custody, was produced before the Bribery Commission today to record a statement in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation.

Senaratne was remanded last week until September 9 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama over allegations of causing a financial loss exceeding Rs. 20 million to the government. The charges are linked to the awarding of a sand mining project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company.

The Magistrate had also directed prison authorities to produce the suspect before the Bribery Commission on September 3 at 9 a.m. for the recording of his statement.
