Two people were killed in a tragic collision between a lorry and a fuel bowser near the Mirigama entrance of the Central Expressway late last night, police said.
The accident occurred around 11:00 p.m. at the 41st-kilometer post. According to police, the lorry veered off the road and overturned, after which the fuel bowser lost control and toppled onto it.
The lorry driver died at the scene, while the bowser's assistant succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital. The bowser driver, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
