Man shot while stealing coconuts

According to police, two local men had allegedly entered the estate and were collecting coconuts into a gunny bag when the watcher opened fire. One of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and managed to flee the scene, but collapsed by the roadside a short distance away. Area residents promptly transported him to the Matale District Hospital.

The second individual reportedly escaped unharmed and is currently in hiding.

The estate watcher has been taken into custody, and Mahawela Police have launched a full investigation.
