The Police Special Task Force (STF) yesterday (01) marked its 41st War Heroes Commemoration at the Katukurunda STF Training School. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Public Security Secretary, retired Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne, with the participation of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya and STF Commanding Officer, DIG Samanda Silva.
The STF War Heroes’ Day is observed every year on September 1, in honor of officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The commemoration traces back to the tragic incident on September 1, 1984, in the Tikkam area of Jaffna, where an LTTE landmine attack on an STF truck claimed the lives of four officers and left eleven others injured.

Since then, the day has been dedicated to remembering the sacrifice and bravery of STF officers who paid the ultimate price in defending the nation.
