The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has urged the public to remain alert to fraudulent job offers promising high salaries for minimal work. Officials said scammers are increasingly targeting vulnerable individuals through flashy advertisements and online promotions, often demanding registration fees or deposits under the guise of employment.

Victims risk losing money, disclosing personal information, or even facing human trafficking threats, authorities warned. SLCERT advised job seekers to verify employers through official channels, including company websites and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) for overseas vacancies, stressing that legitimate jobs do not require upfront payments.

They also urged the public to review contracts carefully, confirm overseas offers with embassies or trusted agencies, and trust their instincts when an offer seems too good to be true. Meanwhile, SLCERT has launched a social media awareness campaign to help citizens spot such scams and stay safe online.
