President Anura Kumara Dissanayake continued his tour of the Northern Province for a second day today (02), engaging in a series of new development projects.
Arriving in Mullaitivu this morning, the President participated in the launch of the National Coconut Cultivation Programme, held in parallel with World Coconut Day celebrations. The initiative designates Jaffna, Mullaitivu, and Mannar as the “Northern Coconut Triangle.”
The first seed plantation under the programme was inaugurated in the town of Palaie, with the objective of cultivating 16,000 acres of coconut in the Northern Province by 2025. Authorities expect this to expand to 50,000 acres by 2027.
Later in the day, the President is also scheduled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Vattuvakal Bridge in Mullaitivu.
