President opens Jaffna Regional Immigration office
The new office, equipped with modern facilities and technology, will serve residents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu, who previously had to travel to the Vavuniya Regional Office—the only such facility in the Northern Province—to obtain immigration services. The move comes amid a steady rise in passport applications from the region.
The President marked the commencement of services by issuing three passports to members of the public.
Addressing the gathering, President Dissanayake said the government aims to enable all public payments and transactions to be conducted online by next year. He noted that digitalisation, a key priority of his administration, will decentralise government functions from Colombo to rural areas, improving public access to essential services.
