EDB Hosts Special Programme for Potential Exporters

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) recently conducted a special programme in Colombo for entrepreneurs with the potential to become exporters in the handicrafts, giftware, ornaments, and toy manufacturing sectors.

The programme brought together 100 small and medium-scale entrepreneurs demonstrating potential to enter the export market, with the primary objective of enhancing their knowledge and capacity.

Speaking at the event, EDB Additional Director General – Development (Acting), Kumuduni Mudalige, emphasized that Sri Lanka’s handicrafts, giftware, ornaments, and toy manufacturing industry contributes not only to export growth but also plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s image internationally.

A key highlight of the event was a presentation by S.H.B. Karunaratne, Managing Director of Art Decoration International (Pvt) Ltd, who shared his industry experiences and success story with participants.

The programme also featured four technical sessions covering key areas in the export business:

Mangala Madhuwanthi, Export Development Officer (Industrial Products Division), presented an overview of the industry and export opportunities.

Buddhika Arachchige, Manager of Sales & Marketing at Printcare (Pvt) Ltd, spoke on packaging solutions.

Lahiru Vipulaguna, Assistant Director (IT Division), discussed information technology solutions and e-marketing strategies.

Asanka Perera, General Manager of Global Consolidators Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, elaborated on integrated logistics services.

The programme provided valuable insights and essential knowledge for entrepreneurs aspiring to enter the export market, reflecting EDB’s continuous commitment to supporting small and medium enterprises and expanding Sri Lanka’s export base across value-added product sectors.

Also in attendance were Manoja Dissanayake, Director of the Industrial Products Division, Dr. S.U. Ratnasekera, Director of the Trade Facilitation & Trade Information Division, along with other EDB officials.
