Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath is scheduled to hold discussions with ambassadors and human rights activists in Sri Lanka next week, ahead of the 60th Session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on September 8.

The Minister will also meet with scholars and lawyers to exchange views on the matter, Foreign Ministry sources said. He is expected to brief diplomatic officials on the measures taken to address human rights concerns within the past year under the new government and outline the progress achieved.

If a vote is held on a resolution concerning Sri Lanka at the UNHRC, the country will seek the support of other member states.

Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, who visited Sri Lanka last June, is set to present his report on the “Situation of Human Rights in Sri Lanka” at the upcoming session.
