A shooting incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. today (31) on Wewa Road, near the Wennappuwa Police Station
According to police, a group of people traveling in a motor vehicle struck a person riding a motorcycle before attacking and shooting the two riders with a sharp weapon.
One of the motorcycle riders sustained injuries and managed to flee the scene, while the other succumbed to a gunshot wound.
Police said that the shooting was carried out using a revolver-type firearm. The deceased had been returning from signing a petition at the Wennappuwa Police Station in connection with a case pending in the High Court. The verdict in the case was scheduled to be delivered on September 9, 2025.
Investigations into the incident are underway.
