Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Saman Ekanayake to be summoned to CID
Mr. Rajapaksa will be questioned over a statement made by former Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon regarding the failure to control the attack on ‘Aragalaya’ protestors at Galle Face Green.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ekanayake has been directed to appear before the CID tomorrow to give a statement on allegations of misusing state funds during former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to the United Kingdom. He is also expected to provide further clarification on the invitation said to have been issued by the University of Wolverhampton to the former president, which some had claimed was fabricated.
It is reported that two invitations addressed to the former president, the first lady, and the former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK have been traced. The University of Wolverhampton has confirmed the authenticity of the invitation in response to an email from Mr. Wickremesinghe’s lawyers, and the documents will be submitted to the CID.
Mr. Wickremesinghe’s legal team has also obtained meeting minutes confirming the event and the attendance of the former president and first lady. The Mayor, Dr. Michael Hardacre, has acknowledged their presence at the function and expressed gratitude to the university for inviting him to the event.
