Several Sri Lankan banks have issued fresh warnings to customers this week over a surge in fraudulent websites designed to steal personal and financial information.

According to the banks, scammers are circulating deceptive links via emails and text messages, leading unsuspecting users to counterfeit banking portals that closely mimic official websites. These fake sites often feature altered spellings or unusual characters in their web addresses to trick visitors.

Customers have been strongly advised not to click on links from unverified sources and instead access banking portals by manually typing the official website address into their browsers.

The notices further urge the public to verify URLs carefully before entering login credentials or other sensitive details, and to report any suspicious activity to their respective banks immediately.
