Deshabandu Tennakoon granted bail

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was arrested in connection with the attack on peaceful protesters at Galle Face on May 9, 2022, was released on bail today.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura granted bail with two sureties of Rs. 1 million each and imposed a travel ban on the suspect. Tennakoon appeared before the court via Zoom while being held at Dumbara Prison.

The Magistrate also clarified that Tennakoon is listed as the 37th suspect in the case, not the 33rd as previously reported. The 33rd suspect is identified as Liyanad Mendis.
