Sri Lanka achieved a historic milestone at the Mr. Universe Bodybuilding Championship 2025, held in Thailand, with local athletes securing top honors and bringing glory to the nation.

Sri Lankan Bodybuilders Shine at Mr. Universe Championship in Thailand

Eight Sri Lankan athletes represented the country, of whom seven claimed a remarkable 3 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals, while also winning the overall championship title of the tournament. The event was held on August 23–24, featuring 250 competitors from 30 countries.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Police STF Sergeant K.D. Mayadunne won two gold medals and earned the prestigious IFBB Pro Card, granting him qualification to compete at the world-renowned Mr. Olympia Championship in the USA.

Adding to the triumph, Dias Wanigasekara of the Sri Lanka Police secured another gold medal, while Chalani Kaushalya and Suwini Sulochana made history as the first Sri Lankan women bodybuilders to participate in an international event, winning two bronze medals.

The victorious team received a hero’s welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport (Katunayake) today (27), where they were greeted by officials of the Sri Lanka Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, along with family members, friends, and Police STF officers.

This success marks a new chapter for Sri Lankan bodybuilding, placing the nation firmly on the global stage of the sport.
