The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today (26) filed a special motion before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama, seeking a court order to freeze the assets of former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who is absconding following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.
The Commission has requested that orders be issued to seize a property in Colombo, valued at over Rs. 30 million, registered under Mr. Senaratne’s name. The seizure order is to be obtained from the Kaduwela Deputy Government Agent and the Land Registrar.
On August 20, the Magistrate’s Court ordered the former minister, who is said to have been evading court proceedings, to appear before court on August 29. The motion on the freezing order is scheduled to be taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate later today.
