The Department of Meteorology states that showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the Uva Province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. today.

A few showers can also be expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces during the morning hours, while mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere across the island.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damages from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas (Next 24 Hours)

Rain Conditions: Mainly fair weather will prevail in the sea areas surrounding the island.

Winds: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds ranging from 25–35 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

State of Sea: The above-mentioned sea areas may become rough at times, and naval as well as fishing communities are advised to remain cautious.
