The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to call off its planned islandwide strike scheduled for today (25), following successful discussions with Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

According to GMOA representatives, the decision was reached after the Minister provided a written assurance addressing several of the key concerns raised by the association. The GMOA had previously threatened trade union action over issues related to service conditions, transfers, and alleged administrative shortcomings within the health sector.

Following the meeting, GMOA officials stated that they were satisfied with the commitments made by the Minister and agreed to suspend all planned trade union action.

Minister Dr. Jayatissa, speaking to the media after the discussions, emphasized the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted healthcare service for the public while also ensuring that the grievances of medical professionals are fairly addressed.

The GMOA confirmed that they will closely monitor the implementation of the given assurances and will take further action if necessary.
