The Department of Meteorology says a few showers may occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts today (24).
Showers or thundershowers are also expected at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Meanwhile, mainly fair weather will prevail in most other parts of the island.
The Met. Department further requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Condition of Rain (Sea Areas):
Showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds:
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 25–35 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
State of the Sea:
The sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota may become fairly rough at times due to increased wind activity.
