Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe Admitted to Prisons Hospital

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was arrested on Friday over allegations of misusing state funds during his tenure, has been admitted to the Prisons Hospital, the Prisons Spokesman confirmed.
Mr. Wickremesinghe was ordered to be remanded in custody until August 26 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, making him the most senior opposition figure to face action under the new government’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.
He was taken into custody after reporting to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record a statement regarding the probe. Following medical advice, he was transferred to the Prisons Hospital for further treatment.
