Sri Lankan Weightlifters Shine at Asian-Oceanic Championship in Nepal

Representing Sri Lanka, a team of 13 competitors won an impressive total of 34 medals at the 2025 Asian-Oceanic Weightlifting Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The medal tally includes 27 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals.

The tournament, which took place from the 15th to the 17th of this month, featured around 200 athletes from across the Asian-Oceanic region.

Among the standout performances, Ransilu Jayathilaka and Hiruni Jayasinghe clinched two gold medals in the prestigious Open Category. Notably, Ransilu Jayathilaka set a new Asian-Oceanic record by lifting 310 kilograms, marking his seventh medal win at an Asian-Oceanic championship.

The victorious Sri Lankan contingent arrived back in the country today (21) through Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, carrying national pride with their remarkable achievements.
