Former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon who was arrested by the CID yesterday (20) over the May 9, 2022 ‘Aragalaya’ attack at Galle Face Green, had been remanded till August 27 by Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura.
Former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon who was arrested by the CID yesterday (20) over the May 9, 2022 ‘Aragalaya’ attack at Galle Face Green, had been remanded till August 27 by Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura.
The incident occurred on May 9, 2022, at the Galle Face “Gota Go Gama” protest site. At the time, Tennakoon was serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Province and was named as a suspect in the attack.
The Magistrate also ordered that all police witnesses be examined within a week and instructed the CID to submit a summary of the evidence on the next hearing date.
