The Joint Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine (JCPSM) has launched an indefinite strike today (21) across 31 hospitals under the Western Provincial Council, protesting against the implementation of the 2024 transfer orders, which they allege were issued with serious irregularities despite strong opposition.
The strike, which commenced at 8.00 a.m. today, has seen the participation of radiographers, medical laboratory technologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists, significantly disrupting hospital operations.
JCPSM General Secretary Chanaka Dharmawickrama stated that the union was compelled to take trade union action due to the authorities’ failure to provide acceptable solutions to their grievances.
According to the JCPSM, the strike will continue indefinitely until a proper resolution is reached.
