The Department of Meteorology says that atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for evening thundershowers in several parts of the country over the coming days.
Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Northern, North-Central, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district, particularly after 1.00 p.m. The public is advised to take necessary precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, mainly fair weather will prevail over the sea areas around the island. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds of 25–35 kmph, though gusts up to 50 kmph are likely in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The Department further warns that these sea areas may be fairly rough at times, and fishing and naval communities are urged to remain cautious.
