Former IGP Deshabandu arrested over Galle Face protest attack

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this afternoon (20) at his residence.

The arrest is linked to investigations into the attack on the Galle Face protest. Tennakoon had earlier filed a bail application seeking to avoid arrest and obtain conditional bail.

However, when he was summoned before Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura today, the application was rejected, paving the way for his arrest.
