The 75th Bellanwila Esala Maha Perahera Festival will reach its peak tonight (August 16) with the grand Randoli Perahera parading the streets, organized under the guidance of Ven. Dr. Bellanwila Dhamarathana Nayaka Thero.
This year’s Perahera is expected to feature around 25 caparisoned elephants and nearly 50 traditional dance performances representing the Udarata, Pahatharata, Sabaragamu, and other cultural traditions.
The procession will commence at 7.00 p.m. from the Eastern Wahalkada of the temple, travel along Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Mawatha, turn at Bellanthara junction, proceed via the Ratmalana–Nugegoda Road, pass the Keells junction, and then turn near Papiliyana junction to return through Vihara Mawatha, concluding at the temple around midnight.
Due to the Perahera, police have announced temporary traffic restrictions tonight at Papiliyana junction, Malani Bulathsinhala Mawatha (Boralesgamuwa–Dehiwala Road), Nedimala junction, and Attidiya junction. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
