Showery Weather Expected in Several Provinces – Strong Winds in Coastal and Hill Areas

The Department of Meteorology says several spells of showers are expected today (16) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. A few showers may also occur in parts of the North-western Province, while mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

Strong winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district.

Marine Weather Forecast:

Showers will occur in sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle. Winds will be south-westerly to westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Sea areas from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, will be rough at times. Meanwhile, areas from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai and Mullaittivu, will be fairly rough.
