Four former Kotte Municipal Council members have tendered an unconditional apology to former Mayor Janaka Ranawaka at the Colombo District Court for lodging a false complaint with the Asset Investigation Unit, alleging he had acquired cooperative land through forged deeds.

When the case was heard before Colombo Additional District Judge Anushka Seneviratne, the respondents — I.V. Premalal, Damitha Pushpakumara, Kapila Nandakumara, and Anura Jayasekara — reached a settlement by apologizing to the complainant.

Ranawaka had sought compensation, claiming the complaint was made maliciously. However, the court ordered the case to be closed without compensation, accepting the respondents’ apology and their admission that the complaint was made without proper knowledge.

The plaintiff had earlier filed nine separate cases against nine former municipal councillors over the same allegation, five of which have already been concluded following similar apologies.
