The Department of Meteorology has issued the weather forecast for Thursday, 15 August 2025, warning of intermittent showers and strong winds in several parts of the country.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
A few showers may occur in parts of the North-western and Northern provinces.
Wind Conditions
Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.
Sea Area Forecast – Next 24 Hours
Rain:
Showers are likely at a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle.
Winds:
Winds will be south-westerly to westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Winds may increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
Sea Conditions:
The sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.
The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu will be fairly rough at times.
