The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers today (14) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur in parts of the Uva Province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2:00 p.m. Fairly strong winds of 30–40 km/h are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.

Rain: Showers are likely in sea areas from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds: South-westerly to westerly winds at 30–40 km/h, with speeds increasing to 50–60 km/h at times in sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds may also reach 50 km/h in sea areas from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.

Sea Conditions: Seas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, will be rough at times. Seas from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu, will be fairly rough.

The public, especially those in coastal areas and fishermen, are advised to take necessary precautions due to the risk of strong winds and rough seas.
