The national initiative for issuing land ownership certificates and deeds, known as “Himika,” will commence today at 9:00 AM at the Palai Central College auditorium in the Palai Divisional Secretariat Division, Kilinochchi District.
The program will be headed by Minister of Agriculture, Livestock Resources, Land, and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lalkantha. Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, Mr. Susil Ranasinghe, said the event aims to facilitate rightful ownership documentation for landholders across the country.
During a media briefing on August 11 at the Government Information Department, Deputy Minister Ranasinghe announced that 50,000 land ownership certificates and deeds are expected to be issued within this year.
He emphasized that the program is an ongoing effort extending beyond this year, aiming to swiftly grant ownership rights to residents for their homesteads, cultivated lands, commercial lands, and investment properties.
Key institutions involved in this initiative include the Department of Land Commissioner General, the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority, and the Land Reforms Commission.
This program marks a significant step toward formalizing land rights, providing security and legal recognition for landowners throughout Sri Lanka.
