In response to growing demand from both local and foreign travelers, Sri Lanka Railways has introduced a new train service named the Ella Weekend Express. This service aims to meet the surge in weekend travel between Colombo and Badulla — a route famous for its breathtaking scenery and tourist attractions.
According to Sri Lanka Railways, the Ella Weekend Express will depart from Colombo Fort every Saturday at 5:30 a.m., offering passengers a direct and comfortable journey to Badulla. The return journey will operate every Sunday from Badulla back to Colombo Fort, providing a convenient schedule for weekend explorers.
Authorities expect the new service to significantly boost tourism in the hill country, offering travelers a reliable and scenic option to explore Ella and its surroundings.
