Sri Lanka’s Government Revenue Gap Narrows by 32.3% in First Half of 2025

Sri Lanka’s government has managed to reduce the gap between revenue and expenditure by 32.3% during the first six months of 2025, signaling progress toward economic stabilization.

According to official figures, government revenue rose by 24.7% to Rs. 2.3 trillion, up from Rs. 1.8 trillion during the same period last year.

Income tax collections increased by 9.2%, reaching Rs. 489 billion, while VAT revenue jumped by 27.6% to Rs. 876 billion.

Revenue from vehicle imports recorded the sharpest growth, surging by 335.6% to Rs. 129.1 billion, reflecting a rebound in import activity and tax collections.
