Final Decision on New IGP Expected Today

The Legislative Council will meet today (12) under the leadership of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, with one of the key items on the agenda being the appointment of Sri Lanka’s next Inspector General of Police.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has nominated Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya for the post, and the council is set to reach its final decision on the appointment during today’s session.
The outcome will determine whether Weerasooriya, who has been serving in an acting capacity, will be officially confirmed as the country’s top police officer.
