Chilaw man held at BIA with Rs. 11.5M gold biscuits

A 58-year-old resident of Chilaw has been arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers at the Katunayake Airport with gold biscuits valued at over Rs. 11.5 million.

The seized gold, weighing 1 kilogram and 2.66 grams, had allegedly been smuggled into the country disguised as vehicle spare parts imported from Dubai.

According to investigators, the suspect was arrested while returning from the airport after paying customs duties for the declared spare parts.
