Sri Lanka has welcomed 1,408,335 tourists so far this year, marking a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) announced yesterday.

India continues to lead as the island’s largest tourist source market, with 286,085 arrivals to date. The United Kingdom ranks second with 135,722 visitors, followed by Russia with 116,257 arrivals in 2025.

During the first five days of August alone, 40,047 foreign tourists arrived in Sri Lanka. Of these, 6,963 were from India (17.4% of total arrivals for the month), 4,345 from the UK, 3,090 from China, 3,049 from France, and 2,739 from Italy, according to SLTDA data.

Tourism officials say the positive trend reflects growing confidence in Sri Lanka as a travel destination, supported by targeted marketing campaigns and improved international connectivity.
