His remarks came in response to MP Ravi Karunanayake, who pointed out that Office Assistants at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka are earning higher salaries than some categories of teachers.
It was revealed in Parliament that the starting salary for teachers is Rs. 53,000, while senior Grade One teachers receive up to Rs. 157,000. However, only 15% of teachers fall into this highest-paid category.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that steps are underway to ensure better remuneration across the profession.
