Army Commander Lasantha Rodrigo Granted One-Year Service Extension

Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, has been granted a one-year extension in service, effective from August 1, 2025.

According to the Army Spokesman, the extension has been approved by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The move allows Lieutenant General Rodrigo to continue in his role as the nation’s top Army officer for an additional year.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo was appointed as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on December 31, 2024. Since assuming the position, he has overseen key military operations and internal restructuring initiatives within the Army.

The extension comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and modernize the country’s defense forces
