Kandy Esala Perahera Begins Tonight with First Kumbal Procession

According to Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Kumbal Perahera will take place nightly from July 30 to August 3, followed by the First Randoli Perahera on August 4. The Final Randoli Perahera is scheduled to take to the streets on the Nikini Full Moon Poya Day, August 8.
The Kap Situweema (Planting of the Sacred Kap), a traditional ritual marking the commencement of the Perahera season, was conducted at an auspicious time—6:05 a.m. on July 25—across the four main Devalayas: Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama, and Pattini.
Following the Kap planting, internal processions were held within the temple premises for five consecutive days, culminating with the final internal procession on July 29.
This year's Perahera is expected to draw thousands of local and foreign spectators to the sacred city of Kandy, showcasing centuries-old traditions, cultural pride, and deep religious reverence.
